FALL 2020 First Post

It’s September, and again, the new term is coming! Due to COVID-19, this term is different from the past. For us, Northeastern has implemented a hybrid system. We need to choose our “preference” (remotely or in-person) each week through NU’s student hub. And if too many people want to take a course in person for next week, the system will randomly draw students to school.

I only take two courses in fall 2020 since I only have seven credits left to fulfill my graduation requirement. One is my core required course, “Law and Ethics of Advocacy,” and another course is “Fundamentals of Digital Journalism,” which is a course (or topic) I am very interested in. Honestly, I never seem to have any experience writing a formal blog or editing news in English; my previous experience is more about video production. But I like to try new things, and with the rise of digital Journalism, text, video, audio, images, even data analysis are no longer separated. The more you learn and practice, the better you can know digital media well. I hope I can expand my skills through the process of this course, like website build (I know a little now!!), what should we pay more attention to when building a blog web? How to make the web look more professional? For audio and video news production, how can we find and collect stories? And what kind of news can be defined as good news? I hope I can find these answers in this class.

As an international student, I’d like to hear more stories from international students or immigrants because their stories may be closer to my culture. And I also want to let people can understand these groups more through my storytelling. I know it would be a little hard for me to collect stories because I am not a girl who likes to take the initiative to contact others, especially as an international student in the US. But I still want to push myself more and not just staying in my “comfort zone.”

Hoping I can enjoy taking this course and hoping everyone can do well too!
